October 10, 2019Reviewer: suzanne in New Jersey* I like the Optimum protein powders, however I did not like the Cake Donut flavor. It had a strange aftertaste . I will purchase more Optimum products, just not this particular flavor. This review is specific to 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein, Cake Donut
April 01, 2019Reviewer: A customer in Pennsylvania* I've been using Gold Standard whey for over a decade because it mixes completely by stirring it with water. For some reason, this recent purchase does NOT mix, and always leaves gobs of protein floating around on top like lesser proteins. Don't know if it was improperly stored or not QC'd by Optimum Nutrition, but it's disappointing nonetheless.
August 06, 2013Reviewer: Dmytro in Malta* I got my order just now. 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein, Double Rich Chocolate 5 lb. Taste is no good. Instanized for sure, compared to pure isolate. For better taste add milk. I usually buying pure isolate and caseine from Ingredia + Nesquick + Milk = heaven cocoa taste.
Other tastes much better. This review is specific to 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein, Double Rich Chocolate
2 of 2 people found the following review helpfulFebruary 22, 2009Reviewer: Betty in Arizona* I've just experienced my first dose of the "root beer float" flavor, and it's yucky! I don't recommend it. It does mix well, taste is smooth, not chalky, I find with all the protein powders I've used that if I sit them in the fridge for 10-15 min. all lumps dissolve. With so many good reviews I was expecting a better tasting product, hopefully it's just this flavor that's lacking. This review is specific to 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein, Root Beer Float
3 of 3 people found the following review helpfulSeptember 21, 2007Reviewer: William in California* A good bargain for the price, but definitely not the best protein mix you will find at Netrition.Com. There isn't much taste to the Tropical Punch flavor, no matter what the ratio of powder to water. Bland is about the best way that I can describe it. It doesn't leave a bad aftertaste though, and tastes more like flavored water than anything else.
This definitely does not dissolve in water all that easily. It kept clumping when I tried mixing it with a fork. Not as bad as most of the chocolate flavored mixes you will find, but still noticeable. You'll probably want to use a shaker bottle for this mix instead of using a spoon.
There are some other mixes you can get here that certainly aren't as cheap, but are better tasting and have a better nutritional makeup. You might want to also look at Syntrax Nectar, if you don't mind spending the extra money. Unlike this product, the Nectar flavors that I tried taste MUCH better, have NO sugars, NO carbohydrates, NO fat and 90% less cholesterol. On top of that, for only 1g less protein, there are 30 less calories per serving.
You get what you pay for. This is a decent product, but I would rather spend the extra money on better flavor, less cholesterol and (important to me, being diabetic) no sugar. This review is specific to 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein, Tropical Punch
